Each weekend will have three nights of concerts. On each Friday night, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan and His Band will perform. On each Saturday, Paul McCartney and Neil Young + Promise of the Real will take the stage. Each weekend will close with performances by Roger Waters and The Who. All of the concerts will start after sunset, and each artist will play a full set.
The Desert Trip 2016 festival will take place at the same location where the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is held. The Empire Polo Club is the highest-grossing music venue in the world. The venue is expected to take in $300 million in ticket sales in just five weekends this year. It is a popular choice for music festivals because of the large and comfortable setting with campgrounds and VIP facilities. It is also located near hotels and resorts and has the warm and sunny weather for which California is known.
Desert Trip is produced by Goldenvoice and its parent, AEG Live. The concerts are expected to gross a total of $150 million in ticket sales. Tickets were bought by fans from as far away as South America, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
This will be the third consecutive year that AEG Live has been involved in the highest-grossing musical event of the year. In 2014, it produced George Strait’s Cowboy Rides Away farewell concert in Arlington, Texas, and last year it produced the Grateful Dead’s Fare Thee Well concerts at Soldier Field in Chicago and Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
